Digital Eye Strain & Eye Fatigue

Relief for screen-heavy lifestyles.

Overview

Focused evaluation and treatment for computer vision syndrome, the tired eyes, headaches, blurred vision, and dry eye caused by long hours in front of screens.

The average adult now spends 7+ hours a day looking at digital devices. Your eyes weren't built for that, and the symptoms are real: end-of-day headaches, blurry vision at your monitor, burning or watering eyes, and difficulty refocusing.

We evaluate the root cause, is it your prescription, your workstation ergonomics, dry eye, or all three?, and build a treatment plan that lets you work comfortably again.

Time to plan

Typically 30–45 minutes as part of or in addition to a comprehensive exam.

Insurance & pricing

Usually included in your routine exam. Occupational lenses and specialty coatings are quoted separately.

How it works

  1. 1

  2. 2

    Vision testing

Refraction at reading, computer, and distance.

  3. 3

    Tear film check

Screen time worsens dry eye, we evaluate and treat.

  4. 4

    Treatment plan

Rx, coatings, drops, and workstation guidance tailored to you.

How to prepare

  • Log your typical daily screen hours ahead of time
  • Note distances (monitor, laptop, phone, tablet)
  • Bring any glasses you currently use for computer work

Who it's for

Office workers, students, gamers, remote employees, and anyone spending 3+ hours a day on digital devices.

Frequently asked questions

Do blue-light lenses really help?

For patients with screen-heavy days, they can reduce glare and visual fatigue. They aren't a cure on their own, but paired with a proper Rx and habits they often help.

What is the 20-20-20 rule?

Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It's the highest-impact habit for screen users.

Should I get computer glasses?

If your monitor sits at an odd distance from your regular Rx sweet spot, a computer-specific pair often solves the problem.

Can screens permanently damage my eyes?

Current evidence doesn't show that screens cause permanent damage, but they do cause fatigue and dry eye, both of which are treatable.

I have diabetes. Could that be part of this?

It can. Blood sugar swings can cause blurry vision that mimics screen fatigue, and diabetes raises the risk of retinal changes. If you have diabetes, we recommend an annual diabetic eye exam alongside any screen-strain workup.
