Overview

A comprehensive eye exam at The Eye Guy is a full evaluation of your vision, eye coordination, focusing system, and internal ocular health, performed by Dr. Samuel "Jake" Gouchenour Jr., O.D. in our Great Falls and Conrad, MT offices.

Most vision problems develop gradually, which is why so many patients don't realize how much they're compensating until they sit down for a proper exam. A comprehensive eye exam does more than update your glasses prescription, it's the single most important preventive health visit for your eyes.

Every comprehensive exam at The Eye Guy includes digital retinal imaging for every patient, so we can document the health of the back of your eye and compare it year over year. This is especially important for patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of eye disease.

Dr. Jake takes an unhurried, conversational approach. Every exam covers refraction, binocular vision, eye pressure, and the health of the front and back of your eyes. You'll leave with a clear understanding of what we found, what it means, and what your options are.

   Check-in & pre-testing

   Confirm your info, review medical history, and complete pre-tests such as auto-refraction, eye pressure, and digital retinal imaging.

   Exam with Dr. Jake

   Refraction, binocular testing, and a full health evaluation of the front and back of your eyes, including a review of your retinal images.

   Findings, plan & checkout

   We walk through everything we found, build a plan around your goals and budget, then help you pick frames or head out with your Rx.

How to prepare

• Bring your current glasses and any contact lenses you wear
• Bring your insurance card and a list of current medications
• Bring sunglasses in case Dr. Jake recommends dilation
• Allow yourself about an hour so you're not rushed
